#12 Explore social networking

I found MySpace, Facebook, and Ning to be interesting. Due to time constraints I was not able to spend much time with each. I could find no friends on MySpace but I might have been doing something wrong. I found Lyle on Facebook. Didn't have much time for Ning.

I tried working at home on these on my desktop computer because I've had so much trouble with the Mac laptops at school and having to override so much. Unfortunately, all I did was load my computer down with spyware and possibly a virus. So, I wasn't able to get anything done. I have protection on my PC but I guess that I'll have to get in touch with SBC and see if they can help me.

Post message on #10

On my Dell, all of the options at the top of the message appear unlike any of the Mac notebooks. But I can't get my funny picture of George Bush to link. I'll try to get Lyle to help. Meanwhile, I'm moving on.

My Uncle Grady, who stepped in as a father figure when my father deserted the family, is in the hospital with pneumonia and cancer in his right lung. I really want and need to go see him.

#10 Online Image Generators

The online image generator is fun. I made an "I finished the TAKS test cartoon" with my student who had finished the TAKS test. I also selected an image with President George Bush carrying his 'favorite' book.

For some reason, when I use my librarian's iMac,my Promethean MacBook, even the computer on wheels the toolbar at the top of the post will not show up.Actually, I can see the ABC for spell check, the picture for Add an image, and the word Preview twice but that is all. I switched to the Dell in my office and I am going to see if I can link with my image. Keep your fingers crossed for me.

P.S. Little things like the absence of the toolbar or whatever it is called are one of the things that has been so frustrating to me. I didn't know that the options were supposed to exist until Lyle told me.

Thanks bunches, Lyle

#11 LibraryThing

I went and created my Library Thing list. It was E-A-S-Y compared to most other things I have done!

:>)

#9 Adding News or library Related Blogs

I chose to add some news feeds because I already have a number of library related feeds. I write the news and sports news for our school announcements every day. I have been scouring the Dallas Morning News every day for thirty minutes or more looking for Dallas local and sports news as well as Mesquite & M.I.S.D. news for the students to report. I am hoping this will shorten the time that I have to spend accessing news stories and sports scores!

#8 RSS Feeders

I had already created an account through bloglines earlier. I think it must have been at another inservice. i have several feeds but will go in an edit it at a later time and add some different sites.

Blog for #7 Cool Tools

I went to cool tools that Google has and signed up for Google calendar. I haven't set anything up in the calendar yet due to time constraints though. i have to be moving on for now.

Mosaic of Senator Bob Duelle's McWhorter Visit #6

Flickr Mashups #6

After many attempts and some very serious frustration levels, I finally managed to create a combination photograph of State Senator Bob Duelle's visit to McWhorter Elementary in December of 2007. Senator Duelle came to school to present every third grade student with their very own dictionary. The dictionaries were a gift from a Republican Women's group. Mr. Duelle spoke to the third graders about getting the best education, going to college, improving their reading, and setting goals. He also held a question and answer session afterwards.

Maybe I'll learn how to post one of the mosaic pictures of his visit soon! To tell you the truth, I was ready to quit after trying to work on #6 at least twice before. I don't handle frustration very well; chalk that up to my ADD. I guess that I like concrete directions as opposed to something that just says explore. I want to begin at START, go to 1,2,3,... to the end. That is the way that I am happiest at.

I know that I probably won't get to #23 by any of the deadlines. It takes me so long to manage even one. I hate to quit. I don't like leaving things unfinished. It seems like I should be able to do something if everyone else can but these exercises have given me real fits!
